Majors Welcome Dylan Evans as New General Manager

With the 2025 MSL season fast approaching, the Major Excelsiors are excited to welcome Dylan Evans as the team's new General Manager. Former GM and BELC Vice-President Keith Slinger has been working with Evans since the beginning of the year to ensure a smooth transition. At the February meeting of the Board of Directors, Evans was formally appointed to the role.

Evans played his entire minor and junior careers as a third-generation Brampton Excelsior before being drafted by the Majors, with whom he won a Mann Cup in 2011. After spending a couple of years with the Peterborough Lakers, he returned to the Excelsiors to finish his playing career in 2019. Since the OLA resumed play in 2022 following COVID lockdowns, Evans has served as an assistant coach for the Jr. A Excelsiors. That same year, he was inducted as a Life Member of the BELC.

Over his 10-year career in the NLL, Evans played nearly exclusively with both the former and current Rochester Knighthawks, including three consecutive championship seasons. After a season working as a scout for the Colorado Mammoth, he joined fellow Excelsior alumni Mike Hasen and Pat O’Toole on the coaching staff of his former Knighthawks team in 2023.

“The BELC is proud to welcome Dylan Evans as the new General Manager of the Major Excelsiors,” said club President Glenn McClelland. “His deep roots in the organization and winning pedigree make him an invaluable addition to the team.”

McClelland, who coached Evans through minor lacrosse, witnessed his growth as a player, competing in numerous championship bouts at the provincial and national levels. “We are excited to have Dylan back with the [Major] Excelsiors, where his leadership and experience will help shape the future of the club.”

Slinger, who took on the role of GM in 2023, expressed confidence in Evans at the Board meeting, stating that he is well-suited for the position and will be a great asset to the team. “He has the experience and connections in the lacrosse world that I don’t.” Slinger will continue working closely with Evans over the coming months to ensure he has all the resources necessary to lead the team to success.

“I am honoured and excited to step into the role of General Manager for the Major Excelsiors,” said Evans. “My sincere thanks to the Jr. A Excelsiors for giving me the opportunity to begin my coaching career in 2019, as well as for their encouragement in pursuing this next chapter.”

As a former Jr. A coach, Evans already has strong relationships with many of the young players drafted to the Majors in recent years—players who will be vital to the club’s future. “This franchise is more than just a team—it’s a legacy,” he explained. “I have fond memories of growing up and walking over to Memorial Arena with my dad to catch a Majors game. The stands were always full of familiar faces, and we watched a great team on the floor.”

Evans' father, Mark, also has a storied career with the Excelsiors and is a Life Member. “Along with our established coaching staff, I look forward to helping reestablish these traditions.”
