The Brampton Excelsior Jr. B Lacrosse Club is honoured and excited to be your hosts for the 2020 Founders Cup! The tournament kicks off Sunday, August 9th, and finishes Sunday, August 16th. All games will be played at Memorial Arena.
The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) first introduced the Canadian National Junior B Championship in September, 1964. Castrol Oils Limited donated a silver cup, which served as the championship trophy from 1964-1971. The cup however, was retired to the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in New Westminster, B.C. in 1972.
In 1972, the CLA unveiled the Founder’s Trophy; The trophy that was first raised by champions in 1972 and continues to be the winner’s trophy to this day. This handcrafted trophy honours the founders of organized lacrosse, specifically the contributions of “The Father of Organized Lacrosse,” Dr. George W. Beers of Montreal, Quebec. The very first rulebook was written by Dr. George in 1867, and was instrumental in organizing the National Lacrosse Association (predecessor to the CLA).
This coming year, the Host Team, representatives of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba), the West Coast Junior B Lacrosse League (British Columbia), the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League, the East Coast Junior Lacrosse League (Nova Scotia and New Brunswick), and the First Nations Lacrosse Association will compete for the national title.
